NPC Setting Adjustments
« on: December 18, 2016, 03:23:03 AM »
Why adjust NPC settings away from defaults? Eh, someone has to kick off the flamewars!  :o

Here's what is non-standard as-of the release:
NPCFactionConfig/MaxDefendFleetCount: 10 (Maximum fleets per system, default: 5)
NPCFactionConfig/TradingMinDefenseShips: 3 (minimum defense/attack ships, if existing in the fleet type, to send on a trading mission, default: 1)

InitialGrowth (e.g. How many systems are initially taken):
Trading Guild: 10 (default: -1)
The Outcasts: 15 (default: -1)
Scavengers: 15 (default: -1)

There's so many other settings to evaluate, it'll take time to sort through the rest. However these should address various low-hanging fruit topics. I'd like to hear public input/feedback/voting regarding any further adjustments.

maybe we should scale it somehow so that new players encounter the weaker factions whilst the older palyers can hunt the more powerful factions if they want too
I'll get around to doing It later right now I'm doing something else

Set the trading guild to lower stats, and promote that newer players engage with the trading guild instead of the others, and set the scavs and outcasts to be more difficult, so us veterans have something to do.

As more factions are added, we can have varying sizes, so new players can deal with weak ones, and old players can deal with more advanced ones.

We need them to have player made ships so they won't get destroyed.

Can you speed up how much territory is taken.

Not sure...however the point of bumping InitialGrowth was to speed up the initial number of NPC-claimed systems.

Can you post a picture of the config settings as you see them?

They're the same thing you can find on your local install; look in your StartMade/data/npcFactions/ folder

Can you make the NPC factions expand faster?

Also it says we can make NPC factions of our own, I suggest making at least 2 more factions with user made ships for their fleets making them more powerful and more versatile for combat on our server. Another thing I saw in the configs was picking where the factions start so maybe for us people living in other galaxies we could get custom factions spawning out by us provided we give you starting coords for them to use.

After a few weeks, the definition of a faction's starting point isn't going to mean much. After-all, just look at our map already :-)

We should have a star wars faction, only star wars ships.

We need to add more ships to what they can use. I would also like to have the settings adjusted so that they take territory quicker. I'll search through the configs to see what I can come up with in terms of what settings to mess with and I'll post them here.

I only have 2 vaygr bp's...not enough to get a faction going. On another note all of Derk's ships are out for the general public on here to use. I would like to make an NPC faction(s) using some of his BP's as they are public on here.

Erth how do you feel about this idea?

Sounds like fun. I could use help honing-in on specific configuration directives though; please feel free to start building a suggested NPC faction folder/design, and we can start it out on staging, with a move to production shortly thereafter.
